Blue Pangolin Project Officer, Marie, authored an article for the May 2022 edition of The Environment, the Magazine of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM), on the urgent need to act for coral reefs.
The article was written in the context of the longstanding support of the Blue Pangolin team to the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI), and its more recent provision of technical support to ICRI’s operational network, the Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network (GCRMN).
ICRI and the GCRMN work jointly to provide scientific knowledge on coral reefs, guide appropriate policymaking, and generate political support at the local, national, and international levels.
The article explores the findings of the GCRMN flagship report, The Sixth Status of Corals of the World: 2020 Report, emphasising the dire projections of the future of coral reefs without urgent action, and explores potential solutions.
